Its not going to happen. Shorties are the only ones that will pass.

There are ways around LT's though...

If there were, they could ask $2,000 for them and I'd still buy em.

You must have missed that. ^^^

Only shorties are legal. Macs are not shorties, they are not legal.

No, I saw that but I figured smog is the same as emissions? As long as it has the factory hook-ups its still no good? I'm not sure not from CA Just puting my $.02 in

Has nothing to do with hookups. You can get AIR/EGR hookups on longtubes as well. (a quick search would answer these questions, btw)

Anywhere and everywhere in the country it is illegal to run anything but shorties with cats. Anything else eitehr doens't have cats or moves them from the factory location, both of which are illegal. Whether or not you can "get away" with it depends on where you live and what, if any, kind of emissions test you have to pass.

It's not passing the smiffer test you have to worry about, it's passing visual (need a CARB EO#). You could pass the sniffer with long tubes and cats, but you would fail visual.

Why are long tubes so great? I mean, honestly I know they make the most power, but im jsut wanting a explanation. I mean, shorties with a y that comes up to them ( as long as the y's not restrictive ) should be as good as hte header going all the way down in all logic? Unless its the pipes all going 4 to 1 too soon..

If shorties suck, why would you bother?

Search button should be able to answer that, but the answer is exhaust gas scavenging.

You live in California so your screwed. I know JBA makes shorty smog legal headers for LS1's but even they are useless for 00-02 models. Since you have a LT1 I'm not sure about how useful shorty headers will be. But I heard LT1's come very air flow restricted from the factory so something is probably better then nothing.

Just look at our sponors ---->

Find any shorty header made for LT1's and it should be ok to pass visual.

Good luck

Yeah, if you have to go through a state run visual, you may have no choice but a good shortie header, Random Tech "downpipe" cats, the most free flowing y pipe/merge collecter you can find and a great catback system. The crime is this will cost you 2-3X as much as almost any longtube setup with 1/3 the power gains!!!

The manifolds on the LT1's arent as good as the LS1's, so you will show better gains. I think SLP makes some good shorties for the LT1.

I recently came across mid length headers that were 50 state legal with an EO number. I'll look again so I can show you where I found them.

Not possible. The act of moving the cats from their factory location is itself illegal.

Either they are shorties that they call mids, or they aren't truly legal. Nothing that moves the cats could be counted on to pass emissions in Kali.

Yeah its just not going to happen.

Find a smog shop and hope they just overlook the relocation of the cats, or just pay them off. Cause blkZ28spt is right.

Don't be fooled by the tricky wording. They are "mid-tube" headers and not "mid-length" headers. They are nowhere near mid-length headers. They are shorty headers, and not even very good ones. A mid-length header could be made to fit a 98-99 and not move the passengers side cat, it's the drivers side that wouldn't work.
