Default 1 7/8's Merge collector, or not to Merge collect that is the question

Going to upgrade to 1 7/8's headers. Should I get the merge collectors or stick with the standard 7/8's LT?

Planning on sticking with the cam in my sig for now and in the future going with a 402..

Thanks

Stay away from the PITA Kooks! Other than that, QTP has a velocity spike on the 3" collector, and also their Y has a nice flowmaster 2 into 1 merge. I like both. I might be getting the QTP Y for my POSKooks.

Sorry I wasnt as helpful as LPE SS would like, I just wanted to keep someone from the hassle I have had! I dont have any experience with the merge, however, I did talk with Barry @ QTP and he mentioned the merges are a good thing. Reading through pages of internet fluff, where we are all experts of course, I seen it mentioned if you get merge to dial in the remaining induction to match it.

If you answered his question instead of try to maintain the momentum of your 'Kooks Suck' train then we wouldn't be having this discussion. I think everyone on this board has heard your rants about your recent experience. However, I would guess that you are in the minority in what most here consider their product good. For you to over generalize in saying their products are anything less based on your ONE bad personal experience....well....sucks.

Sorry to jack or redirect the thread speedo...let's move on...

Merge is definatly worth the gains but the headers need to be built correct to take advantage of them.

WTFE, it's more than just Charlie that had problems with Kooks

Nate, can you expound on your post? Is there any particular brand you know to build them correctly, or not?

I have heard a lot of good things about kooks too. Definitely more good than bad. Maybe this was an unfortunate batch. I have heard the kooks y-pipe is better however.

What ever tubes I decide to go with, the Y will be custom...too many fit problems with a manfactured Y. Of course, recently it appears that getting a good set of tubes is the problem.

We finished a 402 biuld about a month ago with QTP 1 7/8 hvmc. With a small 238/242 115 lsa cam. 523 rwhp 496 rwtq. I also have them on my own car. Kooks or QTP merge collector is the way to go if you don't mind spending the extra money for the merge collectors.
