is it worth it to spend the extra money to buy ceramic coated or stainless headers?

If you live where rust is a problem then get the stainless...otherwise go with the coated and save yourself some money.

Ceramic coated stainless steel. They won't rust, plus they'll contain the heat.

I got non-coated and regret it now, it's an eyesore evertime I look in my engine bay. Just spend the extra and get coated.

everyone says that the coated peels off anyway so whats the point. If Im not getting stainless I dont think it makes sense to spend extra on coated.

Im going to try some Krylon high intensity ceramic bbq grill paint. says its good to well over 1200*, and it makes sense the stuff should work to some point since the metal is in direct contact with hot coals/flames for a good ammount of time. I had some experience with the cheap auto zone brand of header paint that was supposed to be good to over 1500*. Followed the directions...sanded, prepped, sprayed 2 coats, baked dry in oven at 450* for an hour and allowed to cool slowly... and it still flaked off.

I got the non coated and yes they do rust but it's not a show car and still sounds good and you can't beat the hp/price value.( except with a converter or N2O)

Even my coated headers are showing signs of rust. I have a friend with a set of coated hooker's that look like they are about to rust off the car. I don't know who coated them but they haven't held up very well for daily driving. Food for thought.

Always get coated headers unless you go Stainless. The only spots I've heard of coated headers peeling is on the bottom hear the colectors. Nothing ever Major. It's a wasted to get non coated.

If I were loaded with cash I'd get a set of coated SS Kooks. It's $250 extra for the coating though.

Is your car show or not? The bottom line is that uncoated headers will STILL function if they rust, it's just not as pretty as it could be to look at. If it's show, get the stainless. If you have a few extra bucks to try out the ceramic and stave off rust for a bit longer, go ahead. I had a set of uncoated hooker shorties on my car up until a few months ago. Those damn things looked like they were manufactured out of rust... still worked like a charm though.
