Default Kooks Slip on Collector vs Weld on ?????

I've done some searching and can't quite figure out what the difference is. If weld type collector do I have to weld it to the Kooks Y pipe or something else? Does slip on use a clamp? I want 2001 LS1 w air fittings and it say I must get weld on collector. I just do not get it, and how that affects me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So it's just how the collectors attach to the headers not the Y-Pipe? I guess I'm looking how this might affect the installation.
