Default Cleaning out an intake

I bought an LS-6 intake on ebay a while back and just getting around to putting it on. As I prepared to install, it appears previous owner grenaded the engine and there is shrapnel in the intake. I did my best to wash it out with simple green, etc. but due to the typical oiling, there is particulate still hanging in there and no way am I putting it on the car in this condition. I am in good with a machine shop and will check with what they could do to wash it out on Monday but wondering if anyone has encountered this and what the machine shop might be able to do. Doubt you could hot tank this thing...

He sold me the TB too and saw the nitrous hole drilled in it. I guess things didn't go so well with that....

Also, has anyone tried to sand down the top of their intake to detail it a bit? How did it turn out?

I would think if you feed a rag through each port and pull it through a few times, it would get everything out of there.

I did use a mess of carb cleaner but I didn't quite run a rag through each port along with the carb cleaner.. I'll give that a try. Thanks...

Bottle brushes, in the sink with some dawn detergent. If you have *****, put it in the dishwasher after for a final cleaning.

^^^Nice. I'll keep that in mind. No worse than putting the car washing/detailing towels in the washer...that usually leave a ring. She never notices. The dishwasher does have a sticker that says "certified to sterilize"....

Steam clean the inside of it if you can get a hold of a steam cleaner. And I am actually preping my intake as we speak for it to be painted. PAIN IN THE *** if you don't have the right tools. But you can definatly sand the thing without harming it.

There shouldnt be any reason you cant wash the thing out with soap/water, or steam clean as previous guy said.

For mine I used some electrical cleaner to get oil residue out. Worked good, but I did not have schrapnel in mine.

just finished sanding and painting mine today, I used hot water/dishsoap and a little carb cleaner for the really nasty spots.
