Default engine hoisting options

I'm a new member, jsut found this great site. Have a question about attaching a hoist. this evening I brought home a 5.3 vortec, but not sure of a safe way to lift (with cherry picker) without damaging the assy. Still sitting in back of PU straped to pallet.
Is it safe to lift by attaching with a bolt in the aluminim heads?
1 other question, should I have purchased the "Y" pipe or are there other options for the sensors & cat conv. in the exhaust such as deleting?
Just starting this new project & am looking foward to the challange of this swap, although I admit i am going in blind.
Thanks
Larry

Be sure to use deep bolt holes. Not water pump (swallow) holes.
