if it's got a stock thermo, it is at least 195 deg. i think either way it should run fine, but the 160 deg.thermo will run cooler. hope this helps.

timing might be too aggresive..a cooler stat allows you for more spark along with cooling down motor. make sure they didnt play with that.

The thermostat sets the -minimum- coolant temp,
your fan settings and rolling airflow (or lack) set
the maximum. What did they do with your fans?
A low-mods car is probably better off with the
stock 'stat and proper fan control.

Your answer will come in the summertime, in the
form of ping under load.

I got a hypertech one from autozone, they have to order it, but it doesn't cost anything extra, just wait a couple days and they'll call you when they get it. I think it was around 30 bucks.

I bought mine from Summit for $20. Some of our sponsors have it as well.

Wait, are you saying its possible that the 160* stat with a stock engine could cause ping in warm weather?
I got ping in the warm weather....

No he's saying that if it were tuned for a 160* stat the spark might be advanced beyond what you want if you actually have a 195* (stock) stat. This would happen because the extra heat in the cylinder causes detonation. You will want to pull some advance out of the tune in that situation. (or you knock sensor will...)
