Default Exhaust Nightmare!

I have finally finished my car, its a 98 Trans am changed to ported ls6 heads, hot cam, intake etc. I put Hooker LTs and and off road y-pipe, magnaflow extremely low restriction muffler with the rest of the LM catback.
Fitment on everything is great, and the idle on the car is awesome.
I haven't driven the car in 3 years and yesterday I ran it a little up to about 45mph had to turn around and go home because I HATE IT! If I barely hit the throttle it is so freakin loud you cant stand it. What are my options now, should I put cones in the header collectors? I like the headers, but I'll scrap everything else if needed. What should I do to get good flow but better sound? Is there a catted y that will bolt up to the set up I have now?

I would venture a guess & say get rid of the LM exhaust & maybe put a Hooker catback on... LM's with the addition of headers sound like complete raspy *** imo..

He does not have the LM exhaust on there, just the rest. I would say replace the low restriction magnaflow muffler if sound is bothering you. Perhaps maybe go with a traditional style muffler which hangs behind the axle versus a bullet style muffler. That should tone it down a bit.

Replace that muffler with a $45 spiral flow muffler and I think you will be pleased.

Do you think that the spiral flow muffler will actually quite it down. Does anyone have a picture of the inside of it for me?

yeah some cats will work (anyone who thinks cats are only bad just don't know enough).

Or you could add some more mufflers. I really doubt swapping the Magnaflow for any other muffler of similar style/size will really help, sure it might alter the tone but volume will remain pretty constant. A larger muffler will have more of an affect.

But an easy alternative would be to add another muffler. Maybe in the I pipe if there's space or perhaps after the reverse Y split over the axel, I would have though you could add two mufflers (one per side) in there.

Else just swap out the entire cat back for a quieter setup. Hooker or Maganflow are generally not as loud.

Lots of choices and lots of possibilities.

i dont think hooker does but texas speed sells a catted y for about 350 with carsound cats, and im pretty sure theres hardly any restriction as fast as the cats go.. but i have the hooker with longtubes, and it sounds somewhat quiet at idle and it really opens up with you rev it.. and its cheap, fits well.. never gets raspy
