The brand is all up to your price range, QTP with HVMC is 1 of the best on the market but you cant beat the price of some pacesetters. And yes you will need a new Y-pipe and yes longtubes are the way to go

yeah Long tubes would be the first choice and yes you do have to change your y pipe... and it all depends how much you want to spend but Kooks are awesome, also hookers i had to problems.... Good Luck!

For those that are on a budget...the coated pacesetter longtubes are the way to go. I got mine from Texas Speed with their off-road Y pipe for $500 + shipping. You may want to consider getting poly engine mounts and installing them with the headers as many people have problems with their y pipe banging on the floor on the drivers side without the poly mounts.

For cheaper prices you could get flowtechs or pacesetters...go with pacesetters, flowtechs are not made real well. I guess edelbrock has come out with some new ls1 headers aswell in that price range too. If you got money to spend, Kooks or QTP headers are the top of the line. Either way get them coated.

Get Kooks. 304 Stainless and fit like a champ. Tuck very nicely.

have heard nothing but good things about hooker long tubes. great quality, easy install, and good sound. think they go for around 600.

Like the rest of the folks said
QTP or Kooks for the high$$$ end, and coated Pacesetters for the more budget oriented purchaser
In addition you'll need some O2 extensions (you can use the ones that come with the pacesetters, or buy ones that are premade) O2 sims or someone with tuning software to edit out the codes for the rear O2s, depending on the age of the car, you may also want to buy a new set of exhaust gaskets (stock GM metal ones are fine)
Another wise purchase would be a set of plugs, just in case you break on of the stock ones installing, or removing the stock exhaust.
The Y you can use the pacesetter, or some have had good luck with the TSP y pipe

Couldnt say it any better! Unless you live in california then you might want to stick with shorties.. just because of cali gay emission laws! (unless u wanna swap them out every 2 years) then go LT's for sure

I was just looking at the hvmc qtp headers and they claim to add 18 hp OVER other long tube headers. If this is true, then maybe paying twice the money is worth twice the horsepower.

QTP/Kooks for stainless and quality.

Pacesetters for cost and coating.

Is there a reason why nobody buys or recommends Dynatech headers. I consider them to be in the same category as Qtp and Kooks. If anyone has a reason to stay away from them let me know. I'am considering buying either a set of Qtp's or Dynatech headers. Let me know. Thanks

Eric

LT's generally produce the same power all around, don't spend the extra money because you are expecting more performance, just do it if tyou want headers that will outlast your car.
I bought my Hookers used (man that doesn't sound right) on this board for a pretty decent price, and my last T/A I put used headers on as well. As long as you can get some decent pictures I wouldnt be afraid of it.
