Default How long will the cats last if i !air with stock manifolds?

What the title says, i am thinking of dropping some weight off the front end by getting rid or my air but i heard that this will possibly throw a code down the line (couple weeks). has anyone removed the air from their car with stock manifolds. any problems???

i know i will have to make some block off plates..

Here's the scoop....FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD...your AIR system puts air into your exhaust manifold to make sure your front O2 sensors pick it up. If they pick it up, they will adjust the air/fuel ratio to compensate for the extra air. The computer reads this adjustment of the air/fuel ratio and knows that the front O2 sensors are working correctly. Thats what your AIR system is for. After you disconnect your AIR system, the first time your computer decides to run this check, it will think your front O2 sensors are bad, and will throw a code for the AIR system. And on comes that bright *** annoying SES light. If you plan on having your computer tuned, you can have the AIR system deleted from your computer...and still pass inspection. Other than that, your car will run fine without it, as long as that light doesn't bother you. Hope this helped.

I don't know, could be I suppose. But the AIR system usually runs the first few seconds at startup. The O2 sensors at cold start take some time to heat up enough to be able to read properly, until then the car runs in open loop I believe. So the AIR system shouldn't affect the O2 reading, but I'm not 100% sure, just theorizing.

It helps heat the cats while the coolant temp is below 130 degrees. F#ck the air system and have the codes deleted.

the air system will not mess with my o2's correct, i read it is there only to help out the cats to warm up not mess with the o2 sensors. i dont wanna pull the system and have the timing all f#cked up because my o2 sensors are reading false...correct me if i am wrong...i am going to pull the system and dont care about the cats because i plan on getting headers in the summer with ORY, maybe i should just wait, what do you guys think

Don't worry about pulling the air stuff. Period. The check engine light didn't come on when I did it, but it *may* come on for you. Eigther way no won't hurt anything.
