Default O2 Sims

Whts up? I recently put on Pacestter long-tubes with their y-pipe combination. I have the front sensors in but not the rears. I've had it like this for like 2 months. Nothing seems to be wrong with the car. What do the rear O2's do? My friend has long tubes as well with rears O2's and his service light is still on. Do I really need the rear? Thanls for the help in advance.

The rear O2s tell the pcm whether or not the cats are functioning properly. If you don't have the cats in place then you will get a code if you don't have sims or a tune with LS1EDIT or HPTUNERS. Throwing a code for !cats or !air will not hinder performace, but only illuminate the SES light.

But my buddy has long-tubes with no cats and O2 sims but his SES light is still on. He never got a tune after the exhaust.

He needs to get the codes scanned (autozone does it for free) most likely it's the front o2s being below efficiency

Oh o.k. so your saying that if I get the rear O2's that I need to get them scanned? Or will the rear O2's make the SES light go off.

Huh? He is saying that even though there are not any rear O2 sensors the code could be something completly different. Possibly a front O2 sensor.

It could also be a bad rear O2 simulator. Just have the car scanned and let us know.

Ditto that, change them out together and you're definately all set.
