How to eliminate the O2 sensors? Need Race gas.
I have a 2000 Trans AM race car with the original LS1 engine. I need to use race gas but I have heard that it will kill my O2 sensors ending in bad engine performance. I need to completely remove them from my car so I can use any gas I want. I know that some of you will tell me that race gas won't do any good but I need to run it because we have crappy gas here in Panama city, Panama and the only way to get good results is by using race gas.
I need help ASAP please.
Thanks
Jay

Is unleaded race gas unavailable in Panama or do you need more than 104 octane?
As stated, you can have good results experimenting with Toluene/Xylene. Both are pretty easy to find.

Uh. . .you really can't just remove them. The PCM relies on them for data that it uses for all non-full throttle calculations of adjusted Air/Fuel Ratio. And when you are at WOT it uses the past O2 values to determine how much fuel it should add at WOT. I've never heard of race gas screwing up O2, but maybe the fuel could foul them somehow? Either way, you can't eliminate the front O2 sensors.
Now, if you talking about the rear sensors, then you can remove those as all they are used for it determining if the cats are working. If you do pull them and don't use O2 simulators you'll throw a code. You can also have this code removed from the PCM via LS1EDIT tuning.

If he uses leaded race fuel, it will slowly make the O2's unrepsonsive, and soon they will die. Isn't there a way to keep the car in constant open-loop mode?? Ls1-edit??

Ah, yes leaded fuel. I'd imagine that it would kill the O2 if used enough.
I think a few of the single turbo guys were messing with permanent open loop mode because only having one turbo would yeild interesting results with the dual O2 sensors. I'm not sure if anyone has mastered only open loop tuning yet.
Either way it seems like a whole lotta head ache just to run better gas. Do a search on this board (maybe in the Forced Induction section) on home made ocate booster. You can mix Xylene or Toluene to raise the octane of your gas and not worry about the O2s. Supposedly, it's also not too bad on the pocket book.
