Default catch can questions

Ive read through a few threads now talking about catch cans and until this site i have never heard of them... so here are a couple of questions
-what exactly do they do, take excess oil out of the manifold?
-where do they mount and what exactly do they hook up to?
-what types/ brands are out there?
-is this a mod i should (seriously) consider for my car?
Thanks in advance
-Dave

depends...some people never really get anything in them, and some people have bad oil consumption issues - it's relative to every car...if it needs to be drained more than once a month with average mileage, then you probably have problems elsewhere that need to be checked out

depends on driving, like i said not to be mean ask all the questions you want and we here as a community shall try its best to answer, thats who i learned! I drained the oil in that photo at about 1000 miles with some hard runs on it, and a long road trip. I love catching all that oil this is what my unported throttle body looks like after cleaning and then installing the catch can for a little over 5000 miles....
