Default Do I need a PCV valve with a catch can???

I currently am running an LS6 Valley Cover on an '02 LS1 with blocked off stock PVC system and with a CH/Husky Catch Can. My question is what purpose does the actual pcv valve have, and do i have to have one inline between the intake and catch can? Ive seen pictures of people running the lines like I am, but I just wanted to know for sure. I dont want any adverse side effects or extra oil consumption when I could easily work a valve inline. Also would a vented GM oil cap help?

Thanks

pcv valve allows metering of the incoming combustion blowby gasses. While at idle it allows minimal gasses in, and while at WOT it allows more gasses in. To much blowby gas at idle may cause a poor idle. Keeping the PCV valve helps, because with out one the engine may consume more oil through the hose. If you are going to run a pcv system run all of the parts or none of the parts.
