Don't buy that story. The LS1 MAF will read true at
more mass air flow than the 85mm ones, 11% more.
The only downside is a 3" piece of pipe vs 3.5". The
screen is the main impediment to airflow especially
at high velocities. But look at your MAP reading at the
top of gear, WOT, and see how much intake pressure
you're really leaving on the table. That's all -
(BARO-MAP)/BARO - that you stand to gain with an
infinite-diameter MAF and no filter or lid. How's that
dollar per horsepower (take that fraction and multiply
by peak HP now) look? Probably not like a bargain.
But it didn't stop me any.
Now if you were really wanting to eliminate the MAP
drop from the MAF, you'd just go speed density and
chuck the MAF in your old stock parts box. But on a
LT1 you may not have that as a tuning option, and
if you already have a Granatelli that is working for you
(not to be taken on faith, but anything is possible)
you would see no gain as it's already 85mm, right?
And maybe reads straight out to higher airflows (as
it's a lean piece at least in the LS1 version, while the
Delphi 85mm is rich by LS1 standards).
Not something to just up and order, without due
consideration & some reSearch.
Big pipe, better, sure. But that stubby little bit is most
likely a low-payoff (and added-effort) thing to replace.
