Default 160* thermostat or 180* thermostat

which one would be a better choice i live in marylnad and am tryign to figure out which is better to go with out of the two or is the stock one fine

Stock '01 is supposed to be 180 (82C), mine was stamped 86C.

The 160 sucks IMO. I had it for a while and then swapped it back out. The 180 is BARELY different than stock, and I wouldn't waste my money. You can control your temps very well by adjusting the fans alone.

Keep in mind that the thremostat does not make the engine run cooler except in cold weather, it just takes it longer to come up to temp with a 160 degree t-stat. I run a 195, and it works good. It gets the engine up to 195 quickly, and the fans keep it there. Too cool an engine temp just yeilds accelerated engine wear from the condensibles not boiling away from the oil. This makes for sludge and a nasty engine. Get the oil temp up above 220 quickly and keep it there for long engine life.
A race engine can benefit from lower temps to avoid detonation, but this is not a good idea for a street engine.
