Default Help on removing LS6 manifold

My cousin just totalled his 01 SLP SS and he said I could take whatever I want. I want the LS6 manifold, but I don't know how to get it off. What steps would I need to do to take it off? The insurance company is picking up the car real soon, so I need to do this today asap. Help fast! Thanks

pull the intake and TB off and any hoses you can readily get to. get a 1/4" ratchet with an 8mm deep socket. Remove the 10 bolts and the 4 fuel rail bolts. Remove all the injector clips. remove rails with teh injectors plugged in. Pull forward. Disconnect everything from the back. Thats pretty much it.

Its very simple just time consuming. You should pick up a haynes manual that will tell you how. That or follow the directions that were given to you but if you plan on taking other stuff off its easier just to get a manual for the car at your local auto parts store.

I forgot to mention when pulling the intake forward take the vac hose off the brake booster and follow it behind the intake, it goes behind the oil pressure sending unit. make sure when slideing the intake forward that hose doesnt brake the sending unit, it's plastic.

- 1x 2001+ front coolant pipe - #12568478
- 2x 2001+ rear coolant plugs - #12562788 (Note, you can use a 2nd coolant pipe in place of these plugs if necessary)

Where can I get these?

In this pic look at the gally cover with the 2 knock sensors see the silver tube it goes to the front and the rear of the heads. Look at the engine you just took the intake off of. You will see a plug on each side of the head (rear)and in the front you'll see a cross over tube from head to head. The ls1 intake has a bump in the bottom of the intake that allows that tube to run under the intake. The ls6 with the flat bottom doesn't have the room. You can reuse the ones out of the doner car.

Yes that's definatly an LS6, the bottom is flat. LS1 intakes have a round bottom. Send a PM to LS1_SS and he'll probably buy the LS1 intake from you, you can thank me later.

If they haven't gotten the car yet, just go get the plugs and crossover pipe off of it.

BTW - the wire connecting the two knock sensors together has a plastic clip that you need to un-tape it from the wire and remove as well. Even it is too big to fit under the manifold.

And be EXTRA CAREFUL that you do not break off the oil pressure sending unit! It screws into the block behind the manifold on the driverside. The brake booster hose loves to break it off while pulling an intake manifold out.
