Default TD Under vs Over

I have been looking into this subject for awhile now, and I have seen both done and done well. However I am wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are or going under or over. I really haven’t heard in reason to choose one over the other. I was just wondering why you choose to go the way you did, or which way you would go and why.

Definately go over, it just such a cleaner way to do duals. Its a lot easier to run both over the passenger side.

Go under, just have the shop use 3bolt flanges for a quick unbolt on the pipes running from the before the axles out if you ever need to lower the differential. This way you can have the 3" pipe all the way out back, and it resembles the c4 corvette aftermarket systems/irs cobra systems. Looks fantastic/intimidating that way!
When i have put my Mecham exhaust tips on next week, i will post up pics.

That's a good point; with out a comparitive reference it would be tough to say one way or the other.

Well, FWIW, its generally cheaper to go under because theres less fabrication involved.

Does either way cause any problems with mods, like will either get in the way if you were to lower the car?

under the axle can cause a small amount of clearance issues, but if you lower it even more then you could run into problems while driving!

that looks sooooo good, i am about to run duals under the axle w/ single chamber flows. i think under the axle is a lot cleaner and nicer way to run true duals , its so crowded going over the axle.....imo

That does look pretty awesome. Kind of reminds me of the '03/'04 Cobra setup... What are Mecham tips? Hopefully they are dual-tipped or something to fill in the gap

IMHO, that under the axle setup doesnt look too good to me. It does remind me of a cobra. but I drive a F-body. I like the style of over the axle. I like seeing tips and nothing else

I run under the axle, and have TONS of clearance. I'll get pictures in a couple weeks when I go home from college, but it is a good 2 inches higher than the lowest point, which is right after the headers as the duals clear the frame. It is cheaper, and you can keep the panhard brace, which I wouldn't remove if I was you....I've heard bad things. But anyway, I'm real happy with my setup, you can't really see that they go under the axle unless you are at ground level anyway...but I like the look of it. To each his own.

hmm... reminds me more of the c4 style exhaust. you drive a solid rear axle car, not an irs car, so we really don't have the luxery to have this kind of setup, but we can make it work! and put the big pipes on it, too!

Thanks man! And believe it or not, it cost me less to run the duals out back than buying a "high quality/performance" aftermarket cat back system!
