Question K&N Filters and Oil on MAF Wires

I am reading that oil from K&N filters can foul the wire sensors in the MAF. Found this out as I am troubleshooting a P0300 code for misfires. I have a new K&N universal filter on my intake tubing and will be checking the MAF tonight and cleaning it with Electrical Contact Cleaner. My question is how do you keep this from happening again, if in fact the oil from the filter is the problem? I know a lot of folks are running these filters.

thanks

Pat

Thanks for the fast reply! So a brand new filter should be OK then?

I've got the same K&N in my car I bought in '01 - have cleaned it several times and oil has never been an issue - just don't over do it. If I remember correctly the original one had lots of oil on it, wasn't a problem though.

I usually let my filter absorb the oil overnight after I clean it. I can't say for sure that it makes a difference, but I've never had a problem getting oil on my MAF.
