Default Ram air box

Is it better to have a high, bigger gapped air flow for a 00 t/a or a much lowered, smaller gapped air flow? What I mean is it better to have the stock air box, or the air box that comes in the ws6 package?

My guess would be the WS6 air box becuase air is forced into the intake manifold instead of being sucked in like a normal air box does. Just my opinion...

you'd be better off spending the money on an underdrive pulley instead of the "ram air" box. I would think that if you put your car on a dyno and compared the two boxes that you wouldn't see much if any difference. The ram air hood is mostly for looks anyway.

thanks, but if I do buy an underdrive pulley what else would I have to buy with it to install it? what changes will I see when I do buy an underdrive pulley? Overall, would it be worth the money?

engine will rev quicker...should see around 10hp.

You will need some new belts as well.

I was talking to another guy tonight about ram air hoods, and he was saying to get the best out of your intake go with a cold air kit by TSP. I looked into it and it would be alot cheaper than buying a hood(unless you already have it), paint, and the box. Pretty much the same gain for $100s less. You could buy more mods with the money saved and end up getting more bang for your buck.

First I need to make a correction on my previous post, the cold air kit I was referring to was not from TSP but Fasttoys. Compared to other ram air hoods I have found, it sounds like you got a good deal on the hood. Same on the air box and filter. I think the cheapest I have found for the box and filter is $295. All I know about the pulley is that it will help you rev quicker, but I havn't looked into them much.

that slp ram air hood is designed to work with your air box not the WS6 ram air box, so I'd just keep what you have and spend the $$ on other things.

Shrugs.. I have the slp ho ram air hood. SSRA and volant cai. I imagine without the baffles it might be a functional ram air hood... I just did the !FRA on the volant So t looks like it is using the ram air hood but mostly still relying ont he ssra.

Knew when I was shopping for hoods it wouldbe for looks anyhow
All the mods are just for show hehe

The only downfall I can think of is if you have a big stereo, then you will have some charging issues with your alternator. If not, then yea it would be a good buy. It can also help extend the life of belt driven accesories. Hopefully that should answer some questions.

Personally I think the SLP/powerbond pulley is the best:

FEATURES:
Extra-tall belt-retention "walls"--no more thrown belts!
No aftermarket tensioner required
100% steel construction
Lighter than the stock balancer
Integral timing marks and puller-mounting threads
Keyed for high-rpm or supercharged applications
Does not cause false knock retard or erratic power-curve dips
Includes a new balancer bolt

I dont have any big system in my 00 t/a and dont plan on getting anything either, the monsoon is just fine, would it be ok to just buy the underdrive pulley by itself, and buy new belts, or should I get the OD pulley too like dentalguy is saying?

If you dont plan on getting anything extra to drain the alt/battery.. then the crank will be fine.. MAYBE summer nights,.. with lights on, radio on, and ac on max at a stop light idling.. you might get a slight dimming of the lights.. but prolly not.
