I will be installing an elec water pump and the thing that worries me the most is driving and the pump taking a crap on me.
Is there a way to monitor when/if it does fail?
TIA.

There was one out called the "watchdog". The link I found doesn't work so I'm guessing they don't make them anymore? Or they changed names? http://www.autocontrolinc.com/

The bestest sort of indication would be a flying magnet
or reluctor, something that will give you a pulse train
as the water pump spins. You might also be able to
pick off the motor electrical noise though this might
be less reliable. You take that pulse train and stretch
it with a timer so that as long as you get pulses, the
little light stays off. A LM555 or something is ideal for
this. Getting the chopper pulse to full scale is the only
thing that wouldn't be covered by the app notes.

You'd know it fast if it stopped working. Unless you're asleep at the wheel, you should not mess anything up. It's about the same as if the belt flew off while you were driving down the highway.
My GF's car was running low on water one day. I was driving along and all the sudden the temp guage pegged out and the car shut off immediatly. I'd imagine the LSx has the same kind of saftey system.
The check engine light will definatly come on if the temp gets past like 240-250 or so.

There's an engine shutoff water temp programmed into the stock computer.. if you are really paranoid you can lower the temperature to 240 or something. I think it shuts off around 250 or 260 but I'm not sure.

I have a light and a switch wired into the water pump. Basically the light comes on to ensure that I have power to the pump, otherwise you still have to monitor your gauges. I also have a switch wired into the water pump so I can turn the pump on while the car is off. To help cool down between runs. Between the fan switch and the pump running car cools down real fast.

I have searched and searched and am at a dead end.

That is one of the best links I have found, but yet no onemakes them.
I am not electrically inclined to attempt it myself.
