Default ported MAF gains...yes i actually had some

drive to the track 30 mins...swap on a VIPRETR ported maf (by ported i mean this bitch is basically a thin metal tube with sensors...there is no more center divider peice at all)

within 10 mins of the 30 min drive to the track, i make a pass....

12.39 @ 108.6 w/ 1.743 60ft

pull around, swap on the stock maf, make another pass...not 10 mins after the first pass

12.56 @ 106.x w/ 1.740 60ft

then made a few more 1/8th mile passes and each one had 87.x mph in the 1/8th, all with 1.7's...compared to EVERY 1/8mph of 85 with a max in the low 86's (on a 1.65) on previous track trips

basically, my bolt on car responded great to this extremely ported stock maf

You mean to say you picked up .20 and 2mph?

You should try 3 runs of each...Unless you are that consistent of a driver.

Your car is probably running leaner due to the ported MAF, and everyone knows, leaner is meaner. I've seen far more people with problems, than people with gains. An electronics swap on one of these cars is not as black and white as hitting the spray vs. not hitting the spray. The computer adjusting itself takes a bit of time/driving. Installing headers on a buddies car made it run like death, it idled at 600rpms, surged like no other, backfired, etc. After a few drives it ran perfect and picked up power.

And so the debate continues since 1998.

here is some timeslip data (ill only use 1/8ths since that is what i have a few passes on with the ported MAF)

1.65 7.73 87.29 = best pass
1.71 7.92 85.99
*1.74 7.97 85.55
1.76 7.98 85.52

swap on ported maf
*1.72 7.85 87.06
*1.74 7.87 87.05

* same day @ the track

basically, ive only trapped 87 in the 1/8th when cutting a 1.6...now ive run 87 with 1.7

works for me...now the issue is whether my ECU will learn and these gains will be negated

thats why these cars are smarter then people think, they change mine went leaner when the maf got ported and then it changed again when the cutout got put on...hmm...its like a woman
