Default removing 02 sensors easier when exhaust is hot or cold?

I need to remove the rear o2 sensors on my wifes Montero. Those biotches are in there very tight. Would it be any easier if I tried this right when I get home (after a 40 minute commute)? I'm just wondering if the heat/metal expansion would help out.

I would say cold....heat makes metal expand....spray some wd40 or whatever on them and let sit 4 awhile.

It might be, just wear gloves/long sleeve shirt
If that fails get some PB blaster, and give the threads a good soaking, wait a couple of hours, and try to remove them
Just in case you didn't know, use a 6 point wrench/socket, less chance of rounding the nut

Tried WD-40. I'm thinking I might just remove the Y pipe (not as big as an F body Y pipe) because they are so hard to get at. THe only thing is that I will then have to buy 3 new gaskets $12 each.

I would borrow a pipe wrench to put on them before I'd remove the Ypipe....just my $.02

I just dropped my manifolds, and as of presant I have to drop the headers to get to those front ones. Easier to remove the O2 sensors when the exhaust is hot.

Whatever the hell you do don't use a cresent wrench. I keep that tool behind glass for emergencies only, as it's far too dangerous for everyday use.....

I'll try picking some of that up.

I thought about that, but my pipe wrench is too big to get in there.

I can't find the GD things. I have two or three of them. Always in my face when I dont need them, now that I need them, they scurried away and hid from me, like a mouse.
