true duals v. gmmg !??!?!!
About to replace stock exhaust on my z28 and I'm tryin to decide b/w custom true duals and the gmmg cat-back. I've heard alot of good things about both the gmmg and duals, but I've also heard duals have clearance problems. I'm just wondering what kind of power(mainly)/sound differences there are bw the two. TIA
PS: if it helps, my next plan is mac mid or long tubes with high flow cats

Re: true duals v. gmmg !??!?!!
you should get the true duals after you get headers. Check my sig for mine. I am switching over to duals pretty soon. I used to have the gmmg, sounded good but not loud enough for me. so I got the LM. you will gain a few more ponys if you get true duals with an x-pipe. and it might be cheaper than a cat-back system. you will just have to ask around your local shops. as for clearance problems, if your car is lowered, you might. it mostly depends on what mufflers you get, and how much you tuck the pipes up.

TRUE DUEL!!!!!!!!!
Once you get it, you will never want anything else. Before I got mine, I had a B&B, a Flowmaster 80 series, and finally a Loudmouth. The Loudmouth was LOUD, but it just didn't sound like a muscle car.
I have some friends who have .....hmmmm....rustangs.....hmmmmm.....and I always loved the way they sounded. I think a rock moves faster than their cars but....hey....who said that.... . Once I got mine.....awwwwwww....so nice....now I have the sound to go along with all that beautiful LS1 power .

Re: true duals v. gmmg !??!?!!
I love my GMMG. I have heard the true duals on a friends car and I can honestly say I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. My dream exhaust would be true duals with chambered sections instead of the typical bullet mufflers. Now that is an exhaust I could live with.
By the way - if you haven't heard a GMMG you are always welcome to stop by and listen to mine

Re: true duals v. gmmg !??!?!!
I've heard so many good things about both. Right now, the big prohibitive thing is cost. The gmmg is damn expensive... altho I don't know offhand what a custom dual would run. Does anyone have any sound clips of the exhausts... maybe even an SLP. (hehe, much less expensive)... 'Preciate it.

Unless there is some other extreme need, I want maximum ground clearance, and when I got my cat-back, true duels were not discussed to this extent (as I remember). I like the sound of my GMMG, but think I need ORPs to wake the neighbors.

I have the GMMG now but in the future I will probably go to true duals. In another post a few up from this one they discuss some new mufflers. One type was a 24" or 30" chambred muffler. I wonder what those would sound like with duals? I reallly like the GMMG sound, but want to make it louder, but keep the quality too.

See their latest catalog or website.
I found out I can't use them (or anything else but a stock appearing cat-back) because of my states stupid emissions laws!! Why can't they just sniff it and pass it if it is clean! I can't even have a cutout.

True Duals!!! I love my 3" duals and Flowmasters. Loud as hell and not too much trouble with ground clearance..the mufflers have only scraped a speed bump a couple of times.

How much do true duals run? I know it depends on what shop, but does anyone have a rough estimate? Unfortunately money's always the issue...

Re: true duals v. gmmg !??!?!!
True duals can be expensive, depending on the material ie(stainless) or aluminized, and the mufflers. Not worth doing unless your doing with headers. Ground clearence can be a problem or smacking the floor board. Ask Cammin' Beast about it...
The GMMG chambered system is alittle on the high side as far as price, but it blows everyone else's sound away.
It's compatible with just about any of the aftermarket header and Y pipes, and with off road pipes in in place of the CATS it's PLENTY loud, deep and snotty...not raspy like a loud mouth. If you call and make an appointment car we'll install it for you at no additional cost.

The gmmg is what I originally was looking at. Do you know what the HP diff between the gmmg and cutouts are? (tryin to decide if I wanna throw cutouts into the mix too... )

Re: true duals v. gmmg !??!?!!
I was running long tubes with off road pipe, and a GMMG chambered on my WS6, heads cam blower motor with 10psi and only gained 6 hp with a cutout, I was running a QTP, the noise was cool at times to freak people out, but for 6 ponies for all the work and loot...
The GMMG system should be worth 12 @ the wheels over stock Z28 exhaust with no other mods.

www.sweetthunder.com That is a link to some chambered pipes. There is another company out there(forgot the address) that sell the pipes that are identical to the GMMG pipes.
I think my GMMG w/ LT's and ORy is SWEET!! But in all honesty they are totally different sounds for whatever you taste is. You have to experience it. There are serveral tru dual guys running around my area. I am the only GMMG LT person that i know of at all in FL...i may be wrong though.

I have the GMMG and love it! I have a little video I can send if you give me your email. However, I don't think you'll be disappointed either way you go. Good Luck.
