Default Those with Loudmouth and bullet to replace hollow resonator

How did the bullet affect the sound of your Loudmouth? Which length of bullet are you using, and did it seem to quiet the exhaust much, or just remove the rasp at higher RPMs? Are you using longtube headers and an off-road Y-pipe?

I'm very pleased with the sound of my LM, but it is rather noisy and raspy at higher RPMs. What I find so unique about it is the pitch of the sound. With a TR 224 cam, TTS longtubes, TTS cats and their 2.5" Y-pipe, my car has a unique higher-pitched note from the exhaust. I haven't heard this on any other F-bodies, and I want to keep the sound. Since I'm going with an off-road Y-pipe soon, the bullet in the I-pipe is absolutely necessary. I just want to know how it affected those who have performed this mod.

There was an article, I think in Hot Rod magazine, about a guy with an LT1 and he replaced the resonator in his loud mouth because of the raspy sound and popping under decelaration. He used a bullet and was very happy with it.

If you do a search, you'll find many threads filled with posts from people who have done this mod to their Loudmouths and have nothing but positive feedback about it.

I used a Borla XR1 sportsman bullet muffler in my application. I chose the Borla because it is stainless steel like the loudmouth so it should last the lifetime of my car, plus I researched plenty of positive feedback about the sound quality of the Borla. I love the sound It's not as raw as the LoudMouth, or quite as ferocious sounding as the Loudmouth, but the sound quality is very good and much of rasp and drone of the LoudMouth has been eliminated.

The Borla flows too - you can look right through it with only a splitter blade in the middle of the straight tube within the cannister. From the looks of it, I think the splitter is there to break up the sound waves of the exhaust, while letting the exhaust flow unhindered.

Anyway, I recommend this mod - I wish I did it sooner. Good luck!
