If you use K&N filters they have a 1" bolt head on the bottom. That way you can use a wrench/socket. The long one is #2006, I dont remember the short number. I think it's #1007.

ding ding ding!!....we have a winner. One of the best filters on the market and I can't imagine living without that 1" bolt head anymore.

You're going to have to punch a screwdriver through the oil filter then. Just do it in the right position so you have enough room to break it loose.

Ahhh yesh, the ole' screwdriver mod, douching people with oil since 1892.

I'll cast another vote for running K&N oil filters. The truck filter is #2006, it's a bit longer with a little more capacity. It hangs down a little lower, but I've never had a problem.

BTW - You should never put your filter on tight enough to need a wrench unless it's greasy. Did you rub some oil around the gasket before you screwed it on in the first place?

auto zone carries a oil filter socket. That, a 6" exstention, and a ratchet is all I use.

Naa, it should be fine.

Which kind is it? As long as it's not a Fram it should be fine.

Spend the money on K&N which has the nut on the bottom of the filter, or you can use a regular filter but put it on hand tight. Don't crank down hard on it though, just a good hand tight twist is all you need.

If its a Napa Gold filter then it is a Wix filter from what i have read. They are a very good filter. But as already stated the K&Ns with the hex head on the bottom are great.

Here's my oil filter preference...

1)K&N #2006
2)Purolator Pure One
3)Wix

2&3 in the truck version if possible (just look up 5.3l chevy). I ran a Fram before I read about the cardboard guts and whatnot because I liked the non-slip grip lol. I noticed a slight boost in oil pressure whe I switched to the K&N. The filters on ls1's are right after the pump, so they will cause a presure drop for the rest of the system if they are a restriction.

I can get mine off by hand, don't go nuts tightening it when you install it, and it should be fairly easy to get off by hand the next time you change it

i only use delco ones and i use the little cup and a 3/8 wrench. i had the k&n and both times i used it i couldnt get them off with the socket on the bottom. one crushed and the other wouldnt grab. and thats only 3/4 turn after the filter touches.
