I'll cast another vote for running K&N oil filters. The truck filter is #2006, it's a bit longer with a little more capacity. It hangs down a little lower, but I've never had a problem.
BTW - You should never put your filter on tight enough to need a wrench unless it's greasy. Did you rub some oil around the gasket before you screwed it on in the first place?

It's about $4 and attaches to a 3/8 wrench, just remember to use and extension

Which kind is it? As long as it's not a Fram it should be fine.

Here's my oil filter preference...
1)K&N #2006
2)Purolator Pure One
3)Wix
2&3 in the truck version if possible (just look up 5.3l chevy). I ran a Fram before I read about the cardboard guts and whatnot because I liked the non-slip grip lol. I noticed a slight boost in oil pressure whe I switched to the K&N. The filters on ls1's are right after the pump, so they will cause a presure drop for the rest of the system if they are a restriction.
