Default SLP Lid Owners Please Come In.

So it was so nice today I decided to make a junk yard run. You never know what you can find there. Back in Feb I found a GMMG for 75 bucks. Today I found an SLP lid . One of the tabs is slightly broken off but the lid is in nice condition overwise.

My question is that there is a foam ring around the inside of the lid. Was this put there by SLP or did someone add that foam because they were using the K&N filter? The reason I ask is I may be parting with my smoke TSP clear lid soon and I do not use the K&N and want to know if I should remove this foam before switching lids. The foam is also tearing in places.
Thanks!

The foam came on there from SLP, I have the same lid. Also as you noted in some parts its coming off. I'm sure you could live without it.

I know that to use the K&N in my car (02 Z) I was told I had to use the gasket or it would not seal properly. The Holley is different and does seal without a gasket. I used to have a Holley.

Here are a couple of pictures of the gasket. Looks like someone put it on as it is not even close to straight.

That looks just like the piece that comes with a K&N to me. The K&N's have a thinner lip thing around the outside edge.

Mine had some foam on it from SLP, however, it was so crooked and had so many gaps/spots that weren't sealing, I stripped it off and resealed it with some automotive grade weatherstripping I had laying around.

I agree. It looks like the foam piece that comes with the K&N filter. I used to have an SLP lid, and never used the foam piece with it, but probably should have. I recently switched to a clear MTI lid, and with that I could actually see the gap between the lid and the K&N filter. I put the foam ring on the bottom of my MTI lid just to be safe.

While I was cleaning the lid the foam started coming off so I ripped the rest off. I didn't think it looked original but figured I'd check first. I may put my Smoke clear TSP lid for sale in a week or so if this lid works out.

Before someone asks why I would want to swap out my smoke clear TSP lid for an SLP, I picked this lid up for 10 bucks at the junkyard and while I love the look of the TSP smoke clear lid I'm unemployed and could really use some cash so I decided a lid is a lid and this SLP would be just as good. I have also read that the TSP clear lids tend to crack and while mine is not cracked in anyway at this point it always bothers me and makes me look everytime I take my car out. I'm also not crazy about the way the glue or whatever it is they used to seal the neck dripped down around the neck on the inside. I'll put a thread in the FS section once I swap lids out and get some decent pictures of the TSP. What so you guys think the clear TSP is worth?
Thanks guys!

foam came with the K&N filter, the lid does not come with a foam piece, however i bought the filter when i had a V6 camaro and kept it when i sold the car, so my SLP lid does not have the foam strip on it, and its been like that for over 2 years, i have yet to notice any problems

Thanks. Junk yards are my favorite places. It's like searching for hidden treasure to me. The GMMG was just about my best find. 75 bucks for that, 80 bucks to have it installed and another 34 bucks for the stainless rolled tips from a former sponsor. Probably the best 189 I ever spent.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I did the exact same thing except with window weatherstripping (foam sticky stuff) Home Depot for $2.00 worked great.

I found a set of AFR 205s at a local junkyard. Car also had hooker headers/y-pipe, loudmouth, lid, cam, and some busted **** Z06 wheels

SWOOPED up on the heads, accumulating parts for the h/c swap this month!
