Default #8 Spark Plug = WOW

Ok so yesterday i changed out my spark plugs.. well 7 out of 8. the first 7 were easy and took me less than 3 hours. the last #8 plug was a royal B*TcH! I went at it from under the car, like i was told, got the socket on it, but couldnt get the wrench on the socket to turn it! i used a wobble attachment and even tried all kinds of extensions to get the wrench out from the engine bay lol but nothing worked! how are you guys changing it? help me please!

Try using the spark plug socket with vice grips on the end instead of the socket to break the plug loose and then take it out by hand.

If took off the coil rack, it should be easy taking the #8 plug off from the top. I used a torque wrench w/ an extention, adapter to the plug socket.

a 1" extension is perfect for #8 unfortunately most people don't have a 1" extension

werd, it only took me 2 mins to get #8 out and a new plug in. Taking off the wire though was a bitch.

ya getting the number 8 plug wire was deffinitely the hardest and most time consuming but with a 1 inch extension and a ratchet with a swivel head i got out the plug in 2 min. the whole plug and wire change took me less than an hour on a car without headers.

You need one of the long wrenches pictured here. Some people take their sparplug wrenches and put a box/open end wrench over the hex part of the socket, helps with low clearance.

Pivoting flex head ratchet like pictured above. That made number 8 a snap from the top once the coil pack was off. It's all about the right tools. That flex head ratchet made most of the plugs very easy to pull. 25 bucks at Sears. I advise getting one.

With the plug wires off, and long arms, I reached them from the top, going right under my strut tower brace next to the engine from the front of the car.

Spark plug socket with 1" extension and a 3/8" ratchet from the top = spark plug change in 10 minutes.

I have headers and I just use the spark plug socket and a rachet, takes about 1 minute to swap #8

Once you have a method it will only take you 45 minutes to get all 8 swapped out.

I have big hands so I remove both the coilpack AND the valvecover on the passenger side. A 1 3/4" extension makes life easy.
Although the water temp. sender makes things a little tight on #8.

I have an M6 and it literally took me 5min. to get the #8 plug from the bottom. I used a standard spark plug socket and a regular wrench. An automatic might be a little different.

Removing the coil packs does help. You can do it with a pivot attachement as well. Put on a set of mechanics gloves and reach way down there. You should be fine.
