Default Headers vs. Converter

I do not have much done to my car. SLP catback, SLP air box lid, K+N, SLP MAF, and the smooth bellow. I have read much about headers and converters which do you think would the next best mod for my car. It is a 2001 SS A4

If you mean a TQ converter then it's a better bang for the buck than just about anything short of nitrous. If, on the otherhand, you mean higher flowing cats, I'd do that and headers at the same time.

A torque converter is one of the best bolt-ons that you can do to an A4 car. Going with a long tube header package may be good for 2-3 tenths while a converter upgrade can be good for up to 5 tenths depending on how aggressive the converter is, current mods and traction.

Thanks for all the help guys. Think I will go with the convertor. Any suggestions as to which would be the best for mostly street and sometimes the track. It is a daily driver.

I second that question! What T/C for a daily driver with just bolt-ons?

The most popular converter that we sell for daily drivers is the TCI Super Street Fighter 3500. It works really well for street and track duty. That 11.8 with a 1.61 in Colonel's sig is with a TCI SSF 3500. I'm running a 3800 Super Street Fighter in my 200-4R conversion, and it's great! It hits incredibly hard with my 3.73's. I was afraid of losing a lot of 60' ability with this tighter converter vs. my old 4400 stall, but I only gave up .02 in the 60'! I haven't had the new setup at the track much, but my current best 60' with the TCI 3800 is a 1.55.

FYI, the TCI Super Street Fighter is $524.99. Feel free to e-mail me at trevor@texas-speed.com if you have any specific questions.

Thanks!

Red, you would LOVE this TCI 3500! You want bang for the buck? Look no further.

BTW, a set of drag radials would go nicely with this hard hitting converter.

Thanks guys, one of the concerns I had was the price, but if that one is only like 550 that sounds great. I will keep you all posted.

I have been looking at converters myself. A high stall converter will void my warranty. Mines an 02 so I'm going to wait. From what I've learned your likely to need tuning/programming for a stall over 3000. I was looking at a 2800 so I wouldn't have to get into all that.

The only reason you might want tuning for a converter would be to change the converter lockup points. That's just preference and certainly not necessary.

Instead of tuning you should buy yourself LS1edit and just delete torque management.....Thats what us 02 guys have to deal with, atleast thats what I have read...

Take a look at the Vigs from precision industries, a lot of people love them here, and these are the guys you should be listening to. Also if you have some change in the piggy bank, check out the Yank's but they are real expensive in my opinion.....

Most likely I am going with a vig, just don't know which one yet, either a 2800 or 3200.....One day I am leaning toward 3200, the next day 2800....Damn decisions
