Default New ASP Pulleys are SFI Approved.

I was on the back order list at Thunder Racing for a new ASP Pulley. Angie said that ASP was taking so long to get the pulleys out because they were getting them SFI Approved. TR shipped my pulley yesterday, we'll see if its true when it gets here tomorrow.

I just picked up a ASP pulley tonight at Speed Inc and it is indeed SFI approved. Just confirming what's been stated.

Is it recommended to change both the crank and the alternator pullies, or just the crank pulley alone? I would like to change mine.

A friend of mine just got one from Summit Racing and it was also the new SFI approved version.

Most people just do the crank pulley but I too am curious if there's any more power to be gained by doing both.

It does not look as cool as the origional. The Al center has more appeal than the gloss black.

I know I am whinning about its appearance.

Is the rubber dampener part visable from the back? The new ASP pulley looks like solid metal.

I don't see any rubber and it appears to be solid metal.

Then the new ASP pulley must have some type of fluid material inside. Which is cool but quite a divergence from the old ASP or the stock pulley dampener design.

I have never inspected a ASP fluid dampener, but my guess is they have employed a similar tecnonogy with the 25% UD pulley.

The moulded rubber is still in the pulley hidden under the welded on outer metal plate. The plate was added just to keep the outer ring intact and from going towards the engine in the event the rubber fails. The design is the same. SFI just requires to pulley to stay in one piece should the rubber fail. The non-SFI approved pulleys are just fine and really just as safe as the ring would only go towards the engine side prevously. There is a lip on the back side machined into the outer ring that prevents the ring from coming outward but not inward towards the engine.

Keep your old non-SFI approved pulleys. They are slightly lighter and just as safe.

But not worth a flip if you need the SFI 18.1 certification on it if you run 10.99 or quicker!

For awhile the expensive ATI balancer was the only solution for those of us required to have an SFI approved balancer, but now there are a few nice alternatives.

I'm very happy with my C.A.T. SFI approved balancer (yes, one of the ones on eBay)...
