Default Side Exhaust?

has anybody custom made a side exhaust for ls1 fbodys? i eventually want to get rid of the catback, get a pair of LT headers, get a pair of hi-flow cats, then run pipes w/ flat tips out the side...either in front of the door or behind the door. if possible, itll be sumthin u dont see often and itll be loud as ****. plus free up sum space in the rear. whatta ya guys think, any input?

I've seen some pictures of people who have done this, just do a search and I'm sure something will come up.

Personally, I think a lot of them look awful. Not because side exhausts are a bad idea, but because people just direct a pipe out under the side of their car. If you can make it look like the car came that way stock, such as having the outlet come out of a pipe built into the side skirts, it could look sweet.

thats what i was thinkin. u kno the tailpipe tips from the factory exhaust that are flat like a rectangle, i wanna use sumthing like that. plus thatll help for ground clearance cuz my car is lowered. or sumthin else creative. as for the sideskirts, i dont kno about that, i would have to get aftermarket ones that come down lower. or modify the ones i have now. ill look into it. how do u think it would sound?

I was thinking of doing that but then there is always a chance of you burning the **** out of your leg when getting out of your car.

If I could do tips that exited out the side, (I can't cuz it's illegal in California), I'd go with a CME tips, cut them in half, and have each one exit out the side in front of the rear tires. I don't know if anyone else has though about this.

i think my only problem would be ground clearance, my car is lowered and there aint much space, im still gonna try to get creative with it. i might just dump it right outta the cats. dont kno yet?

This is what I'm talking about. It looks good because it's not an afterthought, it is actually built into the car.

A good idea is what someone said about the CME. If you can build it into the skirts like that, it could look sweet.
