1 3/4.......... 1 7/8 would be too much header for a cam only car. I dont see you needing the big headers until you get a few more cubes under the hood.

You are a whole lot of motor away from needing 1 7/8.

so if i keep it to cam and bolt-ons 1 3/4 is fine? what about if i decide to go with heads or SC? would that affect what I decide on?

First tell us what kind of headers you are thinking about. Next until you reach the 450-470 rwhp rang 1 3/4 should be fine depending on what headers your going with. Usually only big cube/heavily modified solid roller setups need to step up to a stepped header or an 1 7/8.

QTP is what I am going to order ..sounds like 1 3/4 will do for sure also, they ask if you want emissions style or race style headers..what does that mean? I don't have to worry bout emissions tests here..only a copper who pulls me over and does a visual or something. thanks for your help

As for a supercharger. I honestly have no experience with them as of yet, but and any one out there correct me if I'm wrong I believe what I said about horsepower should hold true in either case.

Race style simply means no emission fittings at all. This is what Thunder Racing stocks. QTP takes the same header and adds all the neccesary fittings to attach to your cars existing emission fittings. If this is the header your going with then you'll be fine up to at least 450 rwhp on your 346. It is an excellant design.

so you are saying it is a good header for 350-450 rwhp range? because won't I be at the 350+ range with the cam, lid, exhaust, headers?

You will not run out of header, that is they will not impede your performance until your making extreme amounts of power. Up to 450 rwhp(approximate). This is over simplified since we are only talking headers, but long story short 1 3/4 Thunder or QTP you can't go wrong.

Please don't take this wrong way but how did you believe 7/8 of an inch was smaller than 3/4 of an inch. For the record I am a mathematical moron.

Everyone Matt said was correct. 1 3/4 is all I have run for the past 2 years and have made 462rwhp on them. I will be trying a Thunder Racing 1 7/8 header on the new solid roller setup in the next few weeks.

The 6 is double the 3 and the 8 is double the 4. So, if 3/4 is the same thing as 6/8, then 7/8 is a little bigger than 6/8. (Keep in mind that 8/8 would be saying a whole, or 1 inch in this case. The fraction is representing how close to an inch we're talking about.)

You may be right on the math Colonel Sanders, but mamma is still right about why alligators are abnormally aggressive cuz mamma says alligators are ornery because they got ALL them teeth but no tooth brush not due to their enlarged madulla oblongata
PS- happiness is from magic rays of sunshine that come down when you're feeling blue (this too according to mamma)

would 1 7/8 hurt performance? I will be getting headers fairly soon but dont want to have to buy a new set if I get a stroker later on.

Has it been proven that you will lose bottom end and midrange with a 1 7/8 header vs a 1 3/4?

For sake of argument, wouldn't you want the freest (sp?) flowing header available? Dont these LS1's engines breathe hard? Isn't the idea less backpressure more power the we use here.

I'd like to see dyno graphs not theories or opinions.

Anybody have any comparisons with straight up data?

Please don't flame me for asking thanks.
