Re: smokes after header install why?
When you say "on deceleration," do you mean the 60 mph, drop it into 3rd bringing the RPM to 4500 before you go into a turn kind of thing (its really fun...I know.... )?
If so, my car does it too. Some times when I'm really out pounding on it, I will down shift coming up to a stop sign. When the lights from the cars behind hit my rear end, it’s just a thick white cloud and then it will drift by me (almost like I did a burnout when I stopped).
It’s just a result of high rpm/low cylinder pressure causing the rings to leak. I came across a GM bulletin some time ago talking about this. When you turn high rpm with low cylinder pressure (not WOT), the rings don't "seat" properly and oil leaks by (they flutter).
The only ways I know to get rid of it are:
1) Don’t drive like that (yeah right... .).
2) Install a vacuum pump to cause negative pressure in the crank case.
It would be really cool if someone would figure out how to convert the stupid little “auto adjust” idler to an old style “manually adjusted” idler. Then instead of just spinning a dead pulley (not having it do anything), have that pulley spin a small vacuum pump.
