i have a 3rd gen with the same problem. i use all of the factory brackets..... at 6200 mine slings off as well.

there must be a fix for this. it could be a hp problem. ive had several motors in the car, the last putting down 430rwt on 7 cylinders. the new motor is in and its a lot stronger. im guessing 450-470rwt.

any of you fast guys still running the stock stuff? this could be our problem.

I have seen in the past that people with the ASP pullies have had their belt come off at high RPM's. I don't remember who it was but somebody was making new pullies for the tensioner that had a lip on them instead of the stock flat pulley. That seamed to fix the problem.

I believe the better setup is to use a "Larry" pulley which is sold by ASP as well. It has a lip on it to help keep the belt from slipping off.

I was afraid i'd here some of that...ASP's on a 425 + hp motor seems to bring this on accasionally....Hope its that simple...yet in a way hope it was just a one time occurrence cause 240 foot pound and ltsa locktite hold that sucker on there now! Any ideas if there is a "best" belt to use?

Default blown serpitine belt....ever happen to you and what was the cause?

At 6200 RPM the belt let go...also had a 1/4 second bog either that was caused by the belt or caused the belt to come off? Any ideas what would cause the belt to come off...what should I check for?
I do have an ASP pully.

Are all the pulleys (driving and driven) in alignment with each other? This would be helpful. At high RPM a stronger spring may be needed on the tensioner in addition to making sure all pulleys are correctly aligned

I would guess the tensioner is weak (no holding the belt tight). I have the ASP pulley (been on for some 10,000 miles) and have never had any problems with the belts (plenty of 6200+ spin ups).

I seem to remember that somewhere along the way, I read an article about harmonics causing the factory tensioner to "let loose" at 6200 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" /> . If you went straight through it fast, there were no problems (fast rev in neutral) but on an acceleration, you spent just enough time there to throw the belt.

There is a company that makes a manual adjust tensioner for the LS1 (no springs....old school...).

Thanks guys...I'll try a new belt..this time Dayco...Napa has on but its 1/8 in longer than called for...that may just aggrivate the issue, but it'll be in the trunk as a spare. Does it again and I'll get the Larry pully i guess. Or go manual.
Still not sure why it sputtered...perhaps the maf was hit by the belt? any ides there?

Wasn't TPIS or someone selling a LS6 or C5R tensioner that would correct this problem? I remember seeing this other tensioner on the net

You can get one from LG Motorsports (support our sponsors!!). I have one for use with my ATI balancer; I have yet to install it (either the tensioner or the balancer), but the workmanship on it is top-notch, and it definitely looks like it'll get the job done.
