Default flowmaster no good, now what?

Right now i am running a flowmaster muffler only with SLP lid on a 98 lsi. I am not happy with how quiet the flowmaster muffler is and have not been hearing good things about flomaster, like i am loosing horse power. Which exhaust system would be best for power and sound, and I live in Cali so what kind of headers can i throw on it as well? Also, is the LM exhaust really that loud and annoying sounding and how does the hooker cat-back, which i am leaning towards compare tot he more expensive exhaust?

I say get the hooker it sounds real good and tuned.
Also I think the new quick time stainless headers are the way to go at the moment,, maybe the Kook headers but there is not to much info on them yet for our cars.

Hooker catback It's sounds way nastier than the loudmouth. If you buy a LM you'll probably end up replacing the resonator with a dynomax anyways. Another added bonus is that the Hooker CB is cheaper. Buy it and you won't be disapointed

If you've got 80 series flowmasters, it should be like a 40 series 2 chamber setup, so i dont think it would be THAT quiet. Ive heard flowmaster systems on LS1/LT1 cars, and it was by no means quiet.

But, i guess if you gotta change, the hooker, B&B or Corsa systems are pretty good. I dont like Poorla (borla) systems, but thats just a personal preferance. Check the sponsers for some good deals...

Flomaster makes great systems. Don't judge it just based on throwing on a muffler. Get the whole cat-back system.

I have had one on my '94 since early '96. Makes great power and sounds fantastic. I'm always getting compliments on how the car sounds (MAC headers, MAC y-pipe and ORP, then Flowmaster cat-back). Of course, the lumpy cam also adds to the crowd pleaser aspect.

I love my BORLA Cat-back Sys and FLP LT headers and for you Cali guys it comes with Hi flow cats.

Best in my Opinion

Or you could go with a set of Dynotech LT's
But BORLA is the **** when it comes to Cat-back Sys.

BORLA-$649, you get what you pay for...

Now as far as "Flowmaster Sys". I rather keep stock cat-back and run a Cut-out when I race the car...

clotus- You definitely won't be disappointed with the sound or performance of a Hooker cat-back. It's also less expensive than some of the other systems out there. The system gives a great sound just cruising around, and really screams under WOT! If you're interested, we have one in stock for $279.99!

You guys, the Hooker is actually quieter at idle and cruising around than the Flowmaster 80 or AT cat-back. A little louder at WOT though. With headers and no cats, it definitely gets more noticeable.

If your just looking for something louder all around with stock manifolds/cats, go with the straight-piped SLP LM. Borla is also louder than Flowmaster too. And for cheap all-out noise, you can't beat the $30 cutout.

it depends on how much ur willing to spend. the best sounding, best flowing cat back system for ls1's is the GMMG set-up. anyone who disagrees has not heard this in person. we're talkin some f*ckin *****! i'm currently saving up for it. also, most LT's only make it sound better (if that was at all possible) unlike other cat back systems, which usually screw up the sound a little. if money is an issue, u can go with LM's or corsa, but the usual problems associated with them will haunt u. good luck

the GMMG is awesome, but very costly.
a hooker or magnaflow will do you much justice

The Hooker is your best bang for the buck but in my opinion you should shell out the xtra $$ and go for something like a Borla or B&B(which i just heard earlier today and it sounds wicked!) If money is an issue then go with the Hooker or even the Loudmouth. I know that Xcessive motorsports sells these items at low prices. Just my &.02
