Default help with ls6 intake install.. please!

i have a 1998 trans am, i bought a slp ls6 intake manifold and installed it, this was used and bought off someone else, anyway i did the install and found out there should have been a modification done to install it. the guy that i bought it off of, we switched egr's, his had black tape wrapped around the end of the hose where it goes in the intake, but looked okay. anyway, the car was like choking, on the way home and late i found out there might have been a leak or something, like a hole or something in the hose, so i took it down to a local mechanic and he said i should get a brand new egr, so i did from the dealership, but i don't think it will work,

My question is what modification do you have to do to make it work? please help me out guys, thanks in advance.

Did they give you an EGR for a 2000 model? If so it won't work on your 98. Otherwise I don't see why it wouldn't work. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Did you remove the clips that hold down the knock sensor wires? That could cause the intake to not seal correctly.

I'm sure you did this - but you did remove the coolant lines from under the intake correct?

I'm a bit confused, my LS6 intake has no EGR. I was all too happy to take it off. It was turned off with LS1edit anyway. I didn't think that the LS6 intake used an egr? Is that only in California or something?

If you go to the MTI site (one of our sponsors), look at the picture of their LS6 intake and you will see there is no opening behind where the throttle body mounts for an EGR tube. But if that is something exclusive to California, and LS6 intakes sold there have to use a EGR, then I have mine that I took off of a 99 Camaro SS that I will send you for shipping cost only if you need it. But make sure that is your problem first, if so email me and post as well.

The only reason he would have EGR on his intake is because it is an SLP intake. SLP will modify the LS6 intake for you so it will work with your old EGR system. People mainly want that if they have emission testings. It is an option for some and costs more to have it modified. I don't think it has anything to do with California intakes. Hope this helps!

LS6 intakes can be bought with or without EGR provisions. If you have a 97-00 car (that came with EGR) you can either get an intake that will accept the EGR or one that won't, and just delete the EGR with ls1edit. 2001 and up came with the LS6 intake, w/o EGR provisions, from the factory.

You can buy an LS6 intake, made by SLP, with a modification already done to it to accomodate EGR equipped vehicles. So it isn't some freak intake. You do need the LS6 coolant crossober tube and plugs to replace the "X" shaped coolant crossover tubes and also remove the plastic clips on the Knock sensor wires so the LS6 intake will seal properly.

If you have the EGR fitting blocked at the header/manifold, go to the parts store and get a rubber expandable freeze plug to the intake top. Fits right in and no leaks. I ran like this when I had removed the EGR from the stock LS1 intake with !EGR programming until I switched the intake.
