Y Pipe?
I got my hooker catback about 2 months ago and I love the tone its has! I want to make it a little louder but keep that low, deep, controlled tone. If I get a y pipe will it make it change the tone....and how much louder will it be? And I dont plan on doing headers.

Re: Y Pipe?
The 02 y-pipe won't fit on a 98-99 car because of where GM put the passenger side cat on the 98-99 models. If you're just going to get a y-pipe I'd reccomend checking out the LG motorsports 2 3/4 inch y-pipe. the stock y on our cars is 2 1/2 inch pipe the driver's side is just ovalized for clearance. if you're want to see any gain in performance/flow you're going to have to go with larger diameter pipe.

Re: Y Pipe?
It it really worth putting the y pipe on my car? I know I wont get much power if any from it I was just hoping to make my hooker a lilttle louder and keep the tone I have.

Re: Y Pipe?
You'll only see a 5-10 hp increase with only a y-pipe. Probably will be closer to 5 hp because of the poor flowing design of the 98-99 stock exhaust manifolds. It also will depend on if you plan on keeping the stock cats or not. If you go with the 2 3/4 y-pipe and some Carsound or Random Tech cats you'll probably pick up 10 HP. Personally I'd go with a set of Mac mid length headers and an ORY with some o2 sims. You'll pick up more HP going with the Macs but if you don't want to fool with headers then I'd say the LG Motorsports 2 3/4 y-pipe and if you can spare the extra $ go with the Carsound cats to go with the y-pipe.
As far as tone goes you'll get a better/louder tone with a free flowing exhaust set-up it just depends on how much $ you want to spend.

Re: Y Pipe?
I've got the g2 y-pipe and it was a direct replacement for the stock y-pipe. I have the LM exhaust-it makes the sound deeper and got rid of the dreaded drone. If you are bolting up prepare to make 3 or 4 adjustments to cure the knocking on floor boards. I eventually got it right.

Pewter, i too have the LGM Y pipe with the Borla exhaust. Still have my cat's & manifolds (For Now ) Very nice sound over stock. You will tell a diffrence!
Maybe not SOTP, but the car will DEFINATELY flow & sound better, Good choice!

Re: Y Pipe?
Well I guess I will order the g2 pipe tomorrow. I am just worred that it will change the tone that it will change the tone that I really love right now. I love the low, deep, clean rumble my car has now just want a little more noise when crusing....will the y pipe give me a little more loudness than I am going for?
