Removing water pump gasket from the block
I need to know the best way to remove the waterpump gasket from the block to install a new one. I already removed it from the water pump.
Thanks

How did you take it off the pump? You might want to try the same method. If not, maybe a razor blade? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

buy some stuff from Auto Zone or a parts store, its in a can and you just spray it on and let it sit a few minutes.May have to do it in a couple steps. But it works wonders and does take it off pretty good.It just softens up the gasket so you can scrap it off.

Re: Removing water pump gasket from the block
They make gasket removal wheels, and it's about the best 30 bucks you'll ever spend. It's a rubber wheel that chucks into a drill and takes little scotch brite type pads. It is safe on aluminum, (as long as you aren't a complete putz) and whizzes off gasket material like nothing I've ever used.
If you have access to a "tool truck guy" like Matco, Snap-on, or Mac, they should have one for ya

Ever seen those single edge razor blades that come with a metal scraper that the razors fit into? Costs about 3 bucks from Home Depot, etc. Includes maybe 5 of those razors.
Thats what you need....
BTW, I think only the 98s, and (maybe) the 99s had the hard, nasty, impossible to remove water pump gaskets.
Replace these old style (****) gaskets with water pump gasket P/N 12559271, $3.50 ea. You will need 2 of them.

BTW, these scrapers also work perfectly to remove the remnents of graphite head gaskets from the engine block.
Oh ya... Scrape the tops of your pistons to remove ALL the carbon and crap. Don't worry, when the piston is at the top, it will actually be slightly above the engine block deck.
Makes scraping the piston very easy...
When your done, the tops of the pistons will look almost brand new. GOODBYE CARBON! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />
