Default 1 7/8 headers

I have a ls2 402 block and I'm trying to maximize my setup, also down the road I would like to throw a 150 shot through it. The problem is I am trying to decide whether or not it is worth switching my 1 3/4 kooks headers for 1 7/8 kooks headers. I have already found somebody to buy my old headers so the cost will be minimal. Does anyone know what kind of performance gains I would get from doing this switch.

You wil be fine with 1 3/4. You will have more tq. But if this will be a track only cat then go to the 1 7/8.

If you are going with 1 7/8 id recommend getting an aftermarked K member. I didnt and now I get lots of banging and hwen I got tuned my tuner had to basically turn off my knock sensors cause I was getting all kinds of false knock. That or notch the stock k member a lot.

go with 1 7/8-2inch and an aftermarket k-member.

All these people talking about losing low end.. not on a big CI motor.

I just switched from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8-2inch and the power increase is amazing.

So basically the only way I could run the 1 7/8 headers is with a aftermarket k-member. I didn't realize there was clearance issues with these.

Not true at all. You can run them with stock k-member. You might have to trim some. With the 1 7/8-2in, i had clearance issues though.

I've also seen lots of people with 1-7/8's and stock k-member with no problems. I'll be installing a set maby next weekend and plan on taking lots of pictures.

I've posted it many times... going from 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 on my 408, I lost about 20rwtq. didn't gain any hp till after 5000rpms. gained about 5 peak and it carried my hp out about another 500rpm over the 1 3/4. I didn't see any gain at the track.

It doesn't seem like it is worth upgrading to 1 7/8" headers esspecially if there is a chance of fitment issues.

the 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8 is a very debated issue.i would say keep the 1 3/4 if you don't plan on spraying over a 150 shot.i've seen a few n2o tests where the 1 7/8 picked up quite a few hp,tq but i think it was on a pretty big hit so the 1 3/4 was a slight restriction.the combo you are using also makes a difference also.

383ss, Dude you have a 408ci monster do you really care about 20rwtq when you have 515rwtq? Is the 552rwhp because you have 1 7/8s not 1 3/4s? Sounds like a good deal to me cause I can't tell the diff between 515rwtq and 535rwtq can you? I mean its not like these cars are lacking in TQ now is it! My advice is go for the 1 7/8s cause they must sound killer I have heard big exhaust systems on other v8s and they always sound good so for 20rwtq I will take the sound and hp any day. Like some body said earlier get a K member if you need one and save yourself 30 pounds.

I must say on N20 I made huge numbers with these headers. went from 550rwhp to 680rwhp on a 100shot TNT.

I run QTP 1-7/8's heads on my LS2 402. Haven't dyno'd yet, but there is no lack of low end with my setup and the sound is pretty killer (screams at WOT). I have an audio at idle in my sig.

Something to consider is which head you'll be running. Some heads work better with the 1&3/4" headers. Then factor in the engine's displacement. Take your time and make the right choice.

Also, I heard that LG may be coming out with an f-body header. It might be worth waiting to see how this header works. Their Corvette headers are awesome.
