Temp Gauge

My temp gauge isn't working inside the car. I verified with HPtuners that the ECM is reading engine temp. What could cause this?

ECT sensor/wiring maybe? Believe the '98's have 3 wires vs. the newer 2 wire system - and ones for the gauge? Could be wrong...just something to check.
