Default Lid Install - space around MAF / lid connection

Hey everyone,

I just installed a GMS Granatelli Motorsports Lid on my 98 TA. Where you put the lid over the MAFand tighten it down there is some space inbtween the fitment.

I know its hard plastic - but the stock one fit on so much better. There is open space on the sides of the MAF now. Is this normal for lid fitments? Or should I return the unit?

Thanks

You mean the MAF? You usually slide the lid over the MAF, not the TB. Most people don't have any problem, maby your lid is warped?

Can you post pics of it?

ah jeez - yes the MAF - not the TB! Loosing my mind tonight. I mean it slides right on - and I tightened it down - just doesn't fit snug all the way around it.

I can get pics tomorrow - dark outside right now.

first post edited for clarity.

Thats not normal if their is open space between the lid and MAF. I just put the same lid on my car and didnt have any issues with the fitment. Doesnt slide as far up as the stocker did but its pretty damn close.

Return the MAF if it is GMS and return to stock MAF.

Still has the stock MAF - I won't be changing that. only thing new is the GMS Lid -
i'll get more pictures later to clear everything up. At this point i think its just a bad lid.

Bah, looks fine to me.

That MAF has an inner lip that's making a good seal right now thanks to that hose clamp. The lid looks to be trimmed like **** though, it's not a straight cut from when they yanked it out of the mold. Maby it was made on a monday?

You could slide it out and trim it to fit square (slide on an even amount), then slide it back in, but I would say it's fine now.

Musta been made on a monday like you said Blur.

Oh well - i'm gonna try to fix it up a little better tonight I hope.

and I think i'm going to hit the track again on wednesday so we'll see if it helped any.

thanks for the input guys.

Sorry to hear about the lid issue. I've never heard of something like the lid not going into place like that before...if you can't seem to fit it on completely give us a call and ask for tech support (our # is at our website). they should be able to help you out if you can't get it fit snug. we never have bad mondays, always good days...

be sure it is completely air-tight or say goodbye to gas mileage. first time i brought my car to a mechanic he didn't fit the intake back on correctly and I didn't notice until I got 9.5 MPG that tank...

Thanks GMS Fleet - I think I got it squared away - but if I have any more problems I will be in touch.

here are some more pictures (I Ported the throttle body - added a smooth fernco bellows - and the Lid seems to fit better. Here are some pics of the new setup.

I just got my Gms lid in and I'm having the same problem about it not fitting snug around the maf!! WTF? Anyways, did the fernco mod help out? Tough time getting the 4 tabs in also. Hope it's not warped! About to go mess with it again.

yeah the 4 tabs aren't easy to get in.. got my finger good once, but I like the snug fit there.

Yes the Fernco helped out tremendously - it pushes it right up against it and i tighetened the hell out of it.

you can see in the closeup pictures with the fernco that its sitting flush with the MAF now.

good luck. let me know if I can help with anything else.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh no i have the same problem its the belllow....the bellow in between the tb and the maf needs to be longer to allow the maf the ability to be square on the same angle of the lid...you may have a bad cut but me and my 2 friends have the slp and it was like that cuz they sent us ( we ordered at the same time) to short of bellows so if yu get a longer bellow to go between the maf and tb then the maf will be able to flex more to fit the angle of the exit of the lid.....

get the 3' by 3' that's what I got... we torched the ends to make them go on easier - cut it at an angle on the TB side and stuck it in there and then clamped her down.

worked real well I think - will check today to make sure its all holding.

From the photos it look like you need to trim up the fernco on the TB end it looks like *** with that uneven crap hangin out of the clamp..just get a razor knife and trim it even with the clamp dude..
