Default A mysterious rattle...

So, I have been noticing that my car has had a consistent rattle over the last couple of months. It was very discreet at first, but now it is really obvious and sounds really bad. Somebody on z28.com told me it could be my y-pipe. Some random lady who owned a camaro told me to check my rear differential because they go bad on camaros alot. what do you guys think? its a 02 Z28 with 108,000 miles. the rattle seems to be coming from right underneath my seat. Thanks!

what kind of exaust do you have?? could just be one of the clamps getting looser and looser or as the other person told you could be the y-pipe but it can nothing to serious that will hurt your car but a weld could be broke but i would get under there and pull on the exaust a little bit to see if maybe it is loose and maybe you might hear the noise but i dont know the situation but i hope this has helped you

We need more information, what does it sound like and when does it occur. Can you feel it or just hear it ?

Do you have a driveshaft safety loop?

Default my bad...

my bad...the sound is nearly non-existent during acceleration, but as soon as I brake or when I idle or slowly accelerate, the rattle is really loud. I have a magnaflow cat-back exhaust. It was originally bolted on, but then they welded it because they thought there might have been a leak. I dont feel the rattle but I certainly hear it!

Probably, your O2 sensors, thats pretty common.
Get under your car(when its cool) and bang on the exhaust pipe with your hand, If its the O2s youll hear them.

Also look for a heat shield that may have gotten bent, or could be barley touching an exhaust pipe, they've been known to cause more than enough rattles...

i just had to fix my magnaflow catback - it was hitting the upper banhard bar in the back. might want to check that along with the heat shield like said above if the noise is coming from the rear at all
