Lightbulb $17 Fix For 6800+ Belt Throwing

I can't take credit for this mod because 8GTOKLR made a hint towards using one but didn't specify year of Buick Regal SC or modifications to the pulley. So I went to autozone figured I'd try an Idler for a 1997 Buick Regal with the SC'd motor. Took one look and found that the Bearing number matched the factory idler on Bill's T/A. It's a little bigger around and you have to really load the tensior and slide the belt on the water pump last. I had to clearance the back of the pulley with my dremel to get it not to rub and sand the back of the pulley guide wall flat. You'll see what I mean...you just need to install it and determine how much you need to take off. The main difference it more tension from the bigger diameter and higher sidewalls that come above the belt for better control. We beat the crap out of this pulley at the dyno and going down the road bouncing it off the rev limiter and have had no problems what so ever Can't go wrong for $17 and a little sanding. Enjoy...and thanks to 8GTOKLR

Good deal. You also have the Katech tensioner option out there. I have beat the Katech tensioner pretty hard in the past couple of months with no issues either.

Katech solid tensioner with the Powerbond Pulley here, no belt throwing problems all the way to the 7200 RPM rev limiter.

Ok, but in a pinch. $17 is better than well over $100. Chances are the buick tensioner is readily available at local stores. Meaning no overnighting costs will be incured

So with the Katech tensioner, you are still using the stock tensioner pulley? Or does it come with a new pulley with raised sides?

Same pulley (gates from a local parts store, forget the number) here, 7000rpm shifts for almost two years and the belt stays on every time. It would come off every once in a while with the stock pulley..

The OP, as I, just replaced the pulley, not the whole belt tensioner.

That's a helluva idea. I bet that would stop my short belt from coming off @ 6000 rpm. I'll have to do that soon. I'll post a write-up with pics.

Oh, and I work at Advance Auto, so I'll see if I can get a Dayco number for everyone when I get off of my lunch break.

Actually, I come up with 89009. 89003 is a 70mm smooth w/o flange. 89009 is a 6 rib 76mm w/flange.

Stock is a 6 rib 70mm w/small flange.

Hope that helps.
