Default El Cheapo cutouts - "blast gate" ?

Stumbled across a whole mess of these, while
looking for a dust collector blower. Check this
example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/4-Aluminum-Blast...QQcmdZViewItem

Seen them in 3, 4" sizes. Seems like you could
cobble it up with an old-style choke cable kit
(need as much draw length, as your diameter).

For that matter it looks like it is something that
you could MIG up from header-collector-flanges
& flat stock, with a hole saw & MIG.

Just thought this was interesting.

need to be spring loaded or fully-manual though.

I came across those blast gates a while back when I was browsing the mcmaster catalog while working on my cutout idea. Im not sure what gauge those are made of and the room needed to fully open one. This was an idea I came up with but didnt like....https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/536820-variable-cutout-idea.html

you could lay next to the car and have soemone crank the throttle and watch the plate pop open......worked not bad but I wanted to build my own electric cutout.....found the same motor that DMH or whatever that brand is cutout uses.

Its interesting, but it is aluminum, I doubt its designed to take the heat of an exhaust. Worth a try though
