Default Got a turbo sound but no turbo

I have also posted this question on www.ls1.com as this forum was down when I ws going to post the question.

I have fitted an outside camera to the car also a microphone. No real reason for it, just a bit of fun while on car cruises etc...
Anyway, pulled out of a junction earlier change into 2nd at about 4500rpm and it sounds like a turbo discharging before I put it into second. I cant hear this sound inside the car, well not noticably. The microphone is just under/behind the left turn signal on a 2000 Trans-Am. Is this just the sound of the air being sucked into the air filter? A vacuum leak crossed my mind, but it pulls well, 381fwhp/393fwtq.

What do you fellow f-body drivers think?

If you can't hear it from inside the car, did you ever think that it could just be a muffled noise due to the microphone??? And actually yeh,, JDJP is right. When I pop the hood on my car and kick the throttle I can hear a similar noise.

Thanks for the info. Never tried reving the engine with the hood up. I'll give it a go out in the country away from people.

From what your saying it seems to be normal after some modifications.

Thanks

It's your exhaust depressurizing and is normal with a high flow exhaust system. Some people attribute that to rasp but it is not.

Thanks, I too like the sound of the corsa, I got the idea of buying the corsa catack from listening to the sounds on LS1 Sounds
I changed the headers about 6 months after the corsa catbak, and it enhanced the sound even further.
My car with Stock Exhaust
My car with the Corsa Cat-Back stock headers/y-pipe with cats
My car with Full stainless no cats drive past in 1st gear
My car with Full stainless no cats drive past in 2nd gear

Could it be that your have not done the !AIR? I know I get alot of goofy noise from that thing on my toy...I hear that whooooossshhh noise too when I hit it hard going from 2nd to 3rd as she gets sideways though, and trust me it doesn't sound NEAR like a real turbo waste gate a that high of an rpm dumping out between gears...AND NOT nearly as annoying as that PISTON SLAP noise...I thought I had a loose rocker arm for the first 2 months! Reminds me of pinging in old engines...

It cant be the !AIR mod I done, the air pump is in the loft, the fuse has been removed from the fuse box and deleted in the PCM. Thanks for the thought anyway.
