Has anyone heard about Dexcool clogging up waterpumps and radiators?

*ahem*

But yes if it is exposed to too much oxygen then it will turn into gel.

The search is your friend. There's enough info out in the world to keep you reading for about three months.

I have first hand knowledge of it myself. I dont know if I will ever get all of the corrosion out of my wifes Blazer from it. It has taken out the water pump, clogged the heater core, and clogged several t stats.

basically, you are fine as long as the system stays sealed. gunk forms (brown crap) when you have air getting in somewhere.

don't mean to jack, but I've had a question about this latley.

I understand the DEX is for bi-metal engines. Is it safe to run the green stuff if I do a good flush?

I swapped over to the green stuff in my 96 S10. Took forever to flush all that dexcool crap out.

You could find out about Dexcool problems in about ten minutes. Much less time than you would sit waiting for information from us.

Synopsis...
-Dexcool isn't the panacea it was supposed to be.
-Air infiltration and not-distilled water kill it.
-Brown gunk is the result.
-Flush & fill is the fix.
-New green coolants are safe for aluminum engines.
-Overall fix is to not try to go 5yr/50k miles on any color coolant. Try 2-3 yrs.

From what I have seen, ALL Coolant has the ability to turn into that gelitain stuff. Just depends on what it is subjected to. Even the coolant that we use in our aircraft (f-15e) does it.

I had it flushed out this morning--had it in the car for 4 .5 years and it came out fine. Thanks for all your help.
