Default remove a stubborn Crank bolt to change pulleys

car: 2001 z28 m6

mod: swapping stock crank pulley for an underdrive SLP pulley

issue: cant break free the factory crank pulley.

Tried attempts:

1. Mac pro impact gun - crank bolt didnt break free

2. one person holding a strap wrench around the pulley, another using a breaker bar on the bolt. - crank bolt still didnt break free.

3. (clutch was removed) one person holding a strap wrench around the pulley, another using a pry bar between two bolts on the flywheel, and the other using a breaker bar (with a pipe over the bar) - bar still didnt break free.

Now all three of us are strong guys but damn the bolt will not buldge.

Does anyone have any tricks/ideas that we havent tried. Currently we soaked the bolt with Penetrating Blaster and hope that will help break it free.

We where suprised the impact gun did not zip it off.

I used a propane torch and just heated the bolt up for a solid 5 minutes. Once it cooled enough with a little elbow grease it popped off.

I have heard of people using a breaker bar, setting it against the ground and tapping the starter a couple times but it never sounded like a good idea to me so i wouldnt recommend it.

I just got mine off with a 27in breaker bar. Came off allot easier than I thought. THEN, the ARP bolt got stuck in the crank. That took a machine shop with a HUGE impact and lots of time to get out.

LOL..

I thought this would bring up some good stories... thanks guys.

I'm going to try heating it up and just forcing the bolt to break.

I have a Earthquake 1/2" impact gun from Harbor Freight with 625lb/ft and its taken every crank bolt off with ease. I swear I think if they didnt start backing out then this gun would break them.
