Default Cooling issues? Man i need help!

Men, i simply cannot figure this out...

As long as i am driving on the hwy, the car stays at 180-190 on both my autometer and my factory guage..
Now when i end my trip and i am off of the hwy driving through town both guages go through the roof... 230.250 check guage light comes on, after driving some, they start to go back down on there own.. I have replaced my t- stat 3 times (160 deg).. new water pump, new radiator, NO smoke coming from the back.. no coolant smell????

What in the hell....? Relays are fine, it seems that the fans do NOT draw heat from the radiatior...??

Please help... Car is Heads/Cam/stall/Boltons...??

I am @ a loss

have you checked BOTH fans to ensure operation? maybe something broke loose or gasket material is blocking water flow in or out of the radiator/cooling system.

Yes.. both fans are operative..
As temp is hot according to the guages... the radiator is really not hot to the touch????

No, i don't believe any gasket material has come off... Tested both relays.. changed the tstat.. car sat and idled for 10 min... never got above 190..??

It is tripping me out...???

I keepp driving and the temps go down themselves after a few miles... once i get on the hwy.. they drop to normal.

Possibly clogged up a/c condenser? I "shook" mine out during my cam swap and couldn't believe the crap that came out of it. You might also pick up a laser thermometer (they're pretty cheap and really handy) and point it at the heads to make sure the engine is in fact getting that hot and it's not an electrical gremlin.

Fans may be operative, but stock fan settings are pretty
stupid. Coming off the highway you have a lot of heat in
the heads that rolling airflow's been taking out for you
but when that stops, the fans have to play catch-up and
they'll start late. What are your current fan settings?

well usually what you are describing would mean that your fans are not working correctly.
While driving 45+ your fans cant counter act the amount of air flow , when you slow down i.e. off the hwy the lack of cfm to the radiator due to slow or non working fans would cause the temp to sky rocket. You fans might be comming on but are they working, the motors could have slowed down so much they arent working correctly.
