What type of exhuast are you running?

Stock cats dont' flow well and standard OEM replacements are stupid money. Do you plan on modding at all?

Best bet would be to get some long tube headers and a catted Y pipe. TSP sells the set of $700

Failing that there are lots of cats out there. The Maganflow Carsound ones are pretty good for the money (check Ebay for prices).

the ultimate cats are metal matrix ones, available from Random Technology and Maganflow. The flow the best but are expensive. Unless you plan on a decent h/c setup or FI you probably won't need to worry about them though.

I believe Random Tech makes high flow metal matrix OEM fit replacement downpipes, if you are worried about the inspection ***** in our state and feel the need to keep it stock appearing. BTW; as pricey as these may be, they still could be less than dealer/OEM.

If it is the stock cats and you are under 40,000 i think they are still under warranty, not 100% sure maybe one of the other guys will chime in and correct me if im wrong. Im assuming that you mean stock, (i read your sig and dosent look like you have headers or anything).

I think its 80,000 miles or 8 years.
So if you just want a replacement cat and are under 80k miles i would go to the dealership and have them replace it. If you are over 80k you can look in the for sale section or post in the WTB section. I bought a used stock replacement cat from another board member for $30.

i got flowmaster. i had a misfire problem about a week ago. an now i got the cat code for insuficient flow. this is why i want to replace the cats. i want to do headers an cats without messin with the exhaust. want to get headers an cats that will fit with out modden the exhaust pipes. anyone now of any that will fit.

Is this true. someone at work told me when you put aftermarket headers on that there is a chance that you will blow the gaskets for the headers at some point. just wondering if this is true.

The cheapest solution I found is to plain cut them out. GM wants about 800 dollars to replace both and since they are welded in ....

I dont think they are welded in, there is a 3 bolt flange on the manifold and then they bolt to the factory Y pipe as well.
