Default MSD Coils

Has anyone used the MSD Coils for the LS1? Any opinions or comments would be helpful. Thanks.

Spend the $600 somewhere else on the car. A lot of guys are running stock coil packs on high HP cars

At this time there isn't any advantage to using them.

...also, MSD has had some quality issues with their coils for our LSx engines.

I purchased a complete set of 8 less than a year ago, the car fine for 10 months, then started to have horrible miss-fires, but only at normal operating temp.

My mechanic pin pointed the #4 coil as bad. I bought a replacement coil locally AS/AP, and sure enough the problem was fixed. Hurray!

I wasn't concerned at the time, because MSD is suppose to offer a 1 year warranty, and I figured I'd keep the replacement as a sapre. I called MSD, got my RMA, paid to ship the defective part back to them, with original invoice, and a letter explaining problem and my contact information.

Instead of calling or contacting me, they simply sent out a replacement coil COD, for more than what I paid for the original coil/replacement coil.
WTF!

I rejected the package, and tried contacting them. Somehow I'm unable to get a hold of anyone that can help or answer any of my questions.

My rating for MSD products (out of 10):
Plug Wires = 10
Coils = 8 (less 1 for reliability, less 1 for price)
Customer Service = 2

Don't use them. I've heard nothing good unless you want them for cosmetic reasons. If you need better coils use 6.0L truck coils.

Thanks for the replies. I heard there were issues a while ago. I wonder if they corrected them. I was just concerned about the stock coils breaking up beyond 7000 RPM. Thanks.

Well, I got home last night from work to find UPS had delivered a package to me. I wasnt expecting anything - so I was very curious.

Tunred out MSD had re-shipped the replacement coil back to me, no charge.

They must have gotten back the previous delivery attempt they tried sending to me COD and realized the mistake.

+1 to MSD for making good on the warranty.
